Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
One of the few wines not from San Vicente is the 2018 Cuvée, produced with grapes from one vineyard in Labastida, La Llana, by the river. The wine has a moderate 13.7% alcohol, cooler and fresher, with finesse from the sandy soils. It has notes of fruit and licorice. They destem all the red grapes and also try to eliminate all things green, leaves, stems, etc., and ferment all the wines with the yeasts they have selected from their own vineyards. This went through malolactic in barrique, the same as all the wines from this price range onward (Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva go through malolactic in tank). It matured in French and American (15%) oak barrels, 40% of them new for 12 months. This has contained ripeness and a more elegant profile; it’s easy to drink, with good freshness. 100,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2021.
