Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
They have a red that is simply called ‘tinto’ (red!), and the 2018 Tinto is pure Mencía, which is the most common and better known among the red grape varieties in the Ribeira Sacra (and the rest of Galicia and Bierzo). This fermented with indigenous yeasts in granite pools and matured in 500-liter oak barrels for eight months. It has a fruit-driven nose (acid berries) with an herbal twist and is a little spicy, with a faint touch of beeswax and an animal twist. It has moderate alcohol (12%) that translates to a medium body and fresh acidity, fine tannins and a citrus-tinged finish. Very drinkable and fresh, good for what it is. 6,000 bottles produced.
