Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2020 El Carretil is fresh and fruit-driven with very fine, chalky tannins from the very high limestone and silt content in the soil, and it has the elegance of the sand component of the ‘salagón’ soils. As I saw in other 2020s, this is quite gentle and doesn’t seem to have the depth or complexity of the 2018s or 2019s. It’s fresh with notes of mint and fennel, with red and black fruit. It’s quite open and expressive.
