Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The single-vineyard white 2020 Mártires comes from a vineyard that was planted in 1970. It fermented in new French oak barrels for 24 days at 20 degrees Celsius, where it matured for nine months, four of which the wine retained the lees that were stirred twice per week. It’s a powerful, juicy and textured white with 14.5% alcohol and a long, dry, tasty finish that keeps the balance and poise with a pH of 3.28. It’s a more Mediterranean expression of the Burgundian style of whites, still shy on the nose and with a chalky palate. 1,200 bottles were filled in June 2021.

Winemaking
Description
Allende Mártires is a white wine made exclusively with Viura grapes by the Allende winery in Briones (La Rioja).
The grapes come from a single plot from which Finca Mártires gets its name. This vineyard was planted in 1970 on clay-loam soils with rocks in the deepest layers.
Winemaking
Bodega Allende follows the natural cycles of the plant, with organic fertiliser and mechanical tillage, without the use of herbicides.
Harvesting is done manually, selecting the grapes in the winery. After a light pressing and a static racking of the must for 48 hours, it is fermented in French oak barrels for 24 days at 20 °C.
Ageing lasts 11 months in French Bordeaux oak barrels. Four of these months the wine is left on its lees, with battonage twice a week.
Taste
Allende Mártires is a powerful wine , with volume and a persistent flavour, as well as a fruity touch.
A white wine that matures very well
A seductive white wine nuanced by its ageing in barrels and with great ageing capacity. You will be able to enjoy it now or after 10 years in your private cellar, reaching its fullness.
In the gastronomic field it is perfect as an accompaniment to main dishes such as oily fish, seafood and grilled vegetables, as well as blue cheese starters.
